Music really has been in my life for as long as I can remember. Hailing from Streatham, I grew up in a musical household, my Dad being a full time musician and my mum a great lover of music. I remember the joy I found putting records on in our
living room- anyone from Madonna to Michael Jackson to the Beatles and the Hollies and jazz and fushion music!
When I was 3 or 4, and inspired by the music around me, I wrote my first song called 'I've Got the Rhythm'. My Dad was very encouraging of my songwriting and helped record me on his 4 track. This was my first taste of being in the 'studio'!
I used to watch my Dad perform on occassion, one time was at London Zoo with a band called Kabala and another was in France at Disneyland Paris.
When I was around age 9 I took up piano lessons with my Dad on his Casio keyboard. I found it challenging being taught by my Dad but despite the occassional conflict I got
through my Grade 1 ABRSM exam with some help from my
aunt who fixed up some time for me to play on a real piano at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
I might add that music is our family trade with my cousins being Esther, Dan and Mark as well as my uncle being great musicians.
At primary school, although shy, I relished any opportunity to take part in performances. I regularly created my own shows with friends and loved the school assemblies. In year 4 I was very happy to be the part of sheep in the school nativity in which I had a duet part.
Outside of school I took ballet, tap and modern classes at the Beryl Low School of Dance.
